12 Days Of Deadpool: Day 3
The third day of Deadpool released a comical 'Battle plan' drawn by the character, posted on DeviantArt. It is a crudely drawn, tongue-in-cheek image that also mocks Wolverine who can be seen it, labelled as 'honey badger'. This is considered a 'below the line' marketing technique as it isn't something conventional such as a poster or trailer, and pokes fun at itself and Wolverine, setting the tone for the film.
Deadpool Marketing
I think the most important factor in marketing the film was the leaked footage, as this allowed film studios to see the potential fanbase for the film, meaning that they green lit the project, finally allowing the filmmakers some funding.
Social media including Ryan Reynold's tweets were also hugely important, as it allowed any new footage, images or general excitement surrounding the film to spread quickly between fans. This meant that much of the advertisement came from the excitement of fans, rather than the marketing team having to spend more time and money giving the film exposure; the stars and fans of the film did much of the advertising for them!
